A.P. Moller-Maersk Group has announced that two modern vessels will phase-in Canada Express service, which connects North Europe with Canada, to replace existing boxships.
The new vessels are Vistula Maersk and Vayenga Maersk, which are among the largest ice-class container ships in the world, designed specifically for operation in icy water conditions.
Apart from the fact that they have a stronger hull, they are characterised by the effectiveness of the intake, according to Maersk, which commented, “this improvement will provide strong support for business contracts and end-to-end logistics.”
The design of the propeller and rudder of the vessels has been optimised, with the aim of minimising fuel consumption. In addition, the vessels will use biofuels, which are carbon neutral and made from recycled sustainable biomass.
